We’re HOME!

Made it to Changi Airport about 3:30 pm, which was definitely early for our 7:50 pm flight, but actually worked out quite well!  Through security easily, and thanks to our  CapitalOne Venture  card, there was a wonderful Priority Pass airport lounge we could use!  There were lots of comfortable chairs and it was nice and cool and quiet – also had its own bathroom and showers.  Very good food and drink, although we didn’t really avail ourselves of that feature, knowing we’d be eating when we got onto the Singapore Airlines plane.   Finally down to the gate and onto the plane and we were off!  As it turned out, I was in the front row of Premium Economy (different because we changed dates on the trip…long story) but there was no one next to me, which gave me lots of room!  Debby was two rows behind me on the aisle - and turns out – the young Indian man next to her apparently NEVER got up once during the entire 14½ hour flight...

And you thought you’d heard the last of us …

Up this morning, on our last day – but we don’t have to leave the hotel – the lovely Hilton Orchard – until 3 pm (thank you, Mae!) at which time we will check out and make our way to Changi Airport.  So, looking at possible things to do, we decided to play it “safe” (ie. something indoors, in case of rain!) we opted for the Asian Civilizations Museum.  So glad we did!   Had our last great breakfast in the Executive Lounge about 8, and are now all packed up and ready to go. Just have to change into our “traveling clothes” before we check out.  Down about 9:45 am and got a Grab which dropped us at the Museum a few minutes after 10 am, their opening time.   Sir Stamford Raffles, Founder of Singapore Some unusual architecture along the River! Truly a world class museum!  The first exhibit you come to is the Tang Shipwreck, which was uncovered in 1989, and was a ship heading from China to the Near East loaded with ceramics and textiles f...

A Fabulous dinner!

Our first Hawker Center!!   It turned out to be a fairly miserable afternoon -- lots of rain -- so we stayed in and spent some time resting and catching up ... it has been a very active week!  Our plan was to go out about 4, but it was still raining -- so delayed until 5.  Still raining, so we delayed until 5:30, when it looked like things were clearing a bit.  Down to the lobby where we caught a Grab for Lau Pa Sat Hawker Center, which is down in the old Colonial center of town. Lau Pa Sat has been recommended by many Grab drivers we've encountered, as well as Jag, our tour guide from the other night, so we definitely wanted to try it.  We got dropped off right in front of a very interesting building.  While most Hawker Centers are open-air, Lau Pa Sat is under cover -- the original iron structure was shipped over from Scotland in the late 1800's and is still being used.  It's really quite lovely, and accommodates many different vendors.  It seem...

Back to the Marina Bay Gardens!

Up this morning about 4:30 am, although Debby was able to sleep until about 5:30.  Don’t know why exactly, but I just seem to wake up (really) early, no matter what time zone I’m in … no idea what jet-lag will do to me this time!   I actually had a Tucson Festival of Books (TFOB) Zoom meeting this morning at 7:30 am, so we had an early breakfast – terrific as usual! And I was back and waiting for the meeting by 7:25 am.  Everything went fine until my meeting got cut short when the hotel’s wifi cut me off about 8:20 am.  It does that every couple of days so that I have to log in again … oh well, that was one way to leave a meeting!   Out the door a bit before 9 am and in about 15 minutes we were being dropped off at the Gardens.  By this time, it was looking like rain – have to be prepared for all eventualities here – rain (umbrella) or shine (baseball cap/sunglasses) and we made our way to the Skyway between the Supertrees.  It...
